We welcome you to the Outer Banks of North Carolina! This stretch of land is one of the most popular vacation areas on the
East Coast, offering sun-drenched afternoons on one of many
uncrowded beaches and evenings picking crabs as the sun sets over the sound. Despite
its rise in popularity as a favorite resort destination, the Outer Banks continues
to be a family oriented, casual place. Shorts and flip-flops are the standard
attire.
Whether you prefer the northern beaches of Carova, Corolla, Duck, and Southern Shores, or the "town" beaches of Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills and Nags Head, or the relaxed beaches south on Hatteras Island, there are thousands of private beach cottages available for rental. These vary from luxurious oceanfront nine bedroom homes with pool, hot tub, game room and upscale interior decorating, to the older Nags Head style home with loads of character and wrap-around porches. Beach boxes abound and sound front homes are available for a quiet getaway. The vacation rental companies listed below offer specialized searches to help you find your perfect Outer Banks vacation rental cottage for a week, and many offer real estate services to assist you in becoming a property owner yourself! More info about the Outer Banks:
The long strip of islands are accessible by bridge on the northern end, middle and ferry to the south. Wide, unspoiled and uncluttered ocean beaches span the ocean villages of (from north to south) Corolla, Duck, Southern Shores, Kill Devil Hills, Kitty Hawk, Nags Head, Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon, Buxton, Frisco, Hatteras, and Ocracoke Island.
The Outer Banks offer countless activities for the outdoor enthusiast.
The anglers in your group will want to cast a line in the surf for unparalleled
fishing or hop on an offshore charter boat in search of dolphin, tuna and marlin.
Anglers that fish from one of the seven piers between Duck and Hatteras pull in
bluefish and spot. The wind that attracted the Wright Brothers will also appeal
to a wind surfer or sailor, or may entice you to pick up kite surfing while you
are here! The East Coast's largest sand dune, Jockey's Ridge, provides a great
lift-off for hang-gliders. With five championship golf courses featuring Scottish
links design and manicured bent grass greens, the golfers in your group will want
to try them all. When you are ready to relax, there is a place to park your beach
chair and umbrella on a beach and listen to the ocean lapping.
While
you are here, you'll want to visit the quaint town of Manteo on Roanoke Island,
where the first English colonists landed and settled. Enjoy shopping and fine
dining along the Waterfront and take a short walk over to the Roanoke Island Festival
Park. Each night the drama of The Lost Colony is reenacted in the nation's oldest
outside theater at The Fort Raleigh National Historic Site.
Lighthouses dot the coast whose waters had come to be known as the Graveyard of
the Atlantic. Visit the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, which was recently moved out
of the shadow of the ocean. The Currituck Lighthouse in Corolla affords fabulous
views of the Northern Outer Banks. While you are on the Outer Banks, check out
where flight first began at the Wright Brothers National Memorial, the site of
the first powered airplane flight.
Enjoy your stay, and be
sure to pick up an OBX sticker for your car before you leave!
